Bihar to Launch Four New Minority Residential Schools in August

The Bihar government has announced the commencement of academic activities at four new minority residential schools from August 17, 2026. This development increases the total number of such schools in the state to six. The announcement was made by Minority Welfare Department Minister Mohammad Zama Khan during a press briefing in Patna on Friday.

Expansion of Minority Education Infrastructure

The newly completed schools are located in Jamui, Nalanda, Kaimur, and Muzaffarpur districts. These will join the two existing minority residential schools in Darbhanga and Kishanganj. The initiative is part of the ongoing “Bihar State Minority Residential School Scheme,” which was launched in 2018-19. Under the scheme, the government aims to establish at least one minority residential school in each of Bihar’s districts.

These institutions provide high-quality residential education for meritorious minority students from Class 9 to Class 12. In addition to free boarding, lodging, and textbooks, the schools are designed to uplift educational opportunities for minority communities.

Teacher Recruitment and Staff Expansion

To support these schools, the department has requested the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to recruit 288 teachers under the TRE 4.0 initiative. Furthermore, the government has approved 481 posts for teaching and non-teaching staff to operate a total of 13 minority residential schools in the state.

Broader Educational Reforms

The Minority Welfare Department is also working to modernize madrasa education, particularly in border districts. Through partnerships with Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University and the Bihar State Madrasa Education Board, online and smart classes are being introduced. Additionally, skill development programs are being implemented in collaboration with the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC). Madrasa students are now being taught mainstream subjects such as Hindi, English, Social Science, Science, and Mathematics to enhance their competitiveness in the job market.
