Bigg Boss Tamil introduces commoners in historic new season

In a groundbreaking shift for Indian reality television, Bigg Boss Tamil is set to feature non-celebrity contestants for the first time in its upcoming season, titled Bigg Boss: The Common Man. The new format, announced by host Vijay Sethupathi, promises to bring everyday individuals into the spotlight, offering them the chance to navigate the drama-filled Bigg Boss house.

Thousands Vie for a Spot in the Bigg Boss House

The announcement sparked widespread excitement, with thousands of entries pouring in from across Tamil Nadu. Aspiring contestants from diverse backgrounds—including students, professionals, homemakers, and content creators—submitted audition videos in hopes of making it to the show. For years, fans have watched celebrities navigate the challenges of the Bigg Boss house, often wondering how they would fare in such a setting. This season, that fantasy becomes a reality.

The selection process has been rigorous, involving digital auditions, virtual screenings, group discussions, and interviews. From this extensive pool, 50 finalists have been shortlisted. A promotional video recently launched by Star Vijay and JioHotstar introduced the personalities who will help identify the final housemates.

Former Contestants Join as Judges

Adding to the excitement, former Bigg Boss favourites Aari Arjunan, Raju Jeyamohan, and Oviya have been roped in as judges for the selection process. Maya Krishnan, the runner-up of Season 7, will host the show. The judges are looking for contestants who embody authenticity, resilience, and individuality.

“We’re not looking for perfect personalities or carefully crafted images; we’re looking for people who are genuine, resilient, and fearless,” said Aari Arjunan. Raju Jeyamohan echoed this sentiment, noting, “The biggest lesson Bigg Boss taught me is that being yourself is enough. What excites me most is discovering contestants whose individuality can connect with audiences.” Oviya added, “The audience has loved contestants who are spontaneous, fearless, and unapologetically themselves. I’m hoping to see real people with real emotions and real stories this season.”

Premiere Set for August 16

Bigg Boss: The Common Man is scheduled to premiere on August 16, streaming exclusively on JioHotstar with daily episodes. The show will also air on Star Vijay, with episodes scheduled from Monday to Friday at 10 p.m. and weekends at 5:30 p.m. This season marks a significant evolution for the franchise, as it opens the door for ordinary individuals to showcase their personalities and stories on one of Tamil television’s most-watched platforms.
