Bengaluru police rescue Nepalese couple locked inside lodge room

A Nepalese couple trapped inside a locked room at a Bengaluru lodge were freed by police within minutes after the man managed to alert the emergency helpline. The incident unfolded around 1.16 p.m. on September 8 at a lodge in the Mico Layout police station limits.

Swift police response

The man confined in the room contacted the Namma-112 emergency helpline seeking assistance. The information was immediately relayed to ASI Sathish Kumar and APC Manjunath B.K., who were on duty with Hoysala-214 of the Begur police station.

The police team reached the spot within about 12 minutes, contacted the lodge owner, and obtained a duplicate key to rescue the couple safely. Police subsequently took Birendra Bowra, who had allegedly locked the couple inside the room from outside, to the Mico Layout police station for further action.

Dispute over domestic issue

According to the police, the couple, who are from Nepal, had gone to Bowra's house in search of work. A quarrel reportedly broke out between the trio over a domestic issue.

During the argument, Bowra, who works as housekeeping staff at a private company, allegedly locked the couple inside a room in a fit of anger and left the house. The couple, who tried to get out of the room, eventually managed to contact the police control room through Namma-112.

No complaint filed

However, after being rescued, the couple told the police that they did not want to pursue the matter further. Following their request, Bowra was released with a stern warning, a Mico Layout police officer said.

The quick response by the Begur police personnel demonstrates the effectiveness of the Namma-112 emergency response system in addressing distress calls promptly.
