Uttar Pradesh conducts multi-department disaster response drill across Muzaffarnagar district

A state-level multi-department disaster response drill was conducted in Muzaffarnagar to test preparedness for earthquakes, industrial chemical incidents and fire emergencies. The exercise was organized on the instructions of the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and took place simultaneously at five different locations across the district.

The mock drill involved coordinated relief and rescue exercises by multiple departments including police, fire services, health, revenue and disaster management teams working together to practice their emergency response protocols.

In the Sadar tehsil area, mock drills were conducted at two separate locations. At IPL Industries in Rohana Kalan, an industrial and chemical disaster scenario was simulated. The site was equipped with a staging area, medical post, scenario location and relief camp arrangements to replicate real emergency conditions. At Himalaya Public School, teams practiced relief and rescue operations for an earthquake situation.

During the mock exercise, officials tested the complete emergency response chain starting from the moment disaster information is received. The drill evaluated how quickly concerned departments could reach the site, the procedures for safely evacuating injured persons, the provision of medical assistance and the arrangements for transporting affected people to relief camps.

SDM Judicial Krishnakant Vishwakarma explained that mock drills were being organized at five locations across the district. He said the exercises were being conducted keeping in mind potential hazards such as earthquakes, fires and chemical incidents. He stated that disasters can strike anytime and anywhere, so the objective of the mock drill is to create public awareness while also establishing better coordination among various departments.

Vishwakarma added that police, fire, health, revenue and all other related departments are jointly testing their preparedness so that in the event of an actual disaster, relief and rescue work can be carried out quickly and effectively. The comprehensive exercise aimed to identify gaps and strengthen the multi-agency response framework for handling different types of emergencies that could affect the district.
