Belagavi Police Reunite 12 Missing Persons Using Advanced Technology

Belagavi district police have successfully leveraged advanced technological tools to locate and reunite 12 missing persons with their families over the past few months. The operation employed cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, digital forensics, and social media tracking to achieve these results. Several individuals traced during this initiative had been missing for years, with some found across multiple states.

The missing persons were located in various regions, including Sangli, Raigad, and Beed districts in Maharashtra, Anand district in Gujarat, and Goa. Others had separated from their families and settled in districts such as Bengaluru, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot. Following the completion of legal formalities, all 12 individuals were reunited with their families.

A combination of high-tech tools played a crucial role in these investigations. Facial recognition software was used to compare photographs and identify individuals through databases and CCTV footage. Additionally, an AI-powered age-progression image generator helped match old photos of missing persons with their current appearances. The police also analyzed social media activity, mobile phone usage, signal triangulation, email records, digital transactions, and location-based data to trace movement patterns.

These technological methods were used alongside traditional investigative techniques. Once the location of a missing person was confirmed, officers from the jurisdictional police station coordinated with local police to locate and communicate with the individual. The Belagavi City Police also utilized these tools as part of the operation.

The "detect and reunite" operation was supervised by Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan and Additional Superintendent of Police R.B. Basaragi. A dedicated team, led by Women’s Police Station Inspector Netravati B. Patil, along with technical staff Sachin Patil and Vinod Thakkannavar, played a key role in the success of this initiative.
