Bangalore Metro gets safety nod for four new six-car trains on Purple, Green lines

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has secured clearance to deploy four new six-car trainsets on its Purple and Green Lines, with the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, Southern Circle, granting authorisation for the CRRC-manufactured trains equipped with Distance-to-Go signalling.

The four trainsets, which have already arrived, will now enter revenue service and are expected to boost train availability during peak hours while reducing congestion on both corridors, BMRCL said.

Phased rollout underway

The four trainsets form part of a larger order of 21 units placed by BMRCL. The corporation said it expects the remaining 17 trainsets to arrive in a phased manner at the rate of two trainsets per month.

The new rolling stock is equipped with Distance-to-Go signalling technology, a system that provides real-time information on the distance to the next station or stopping point. The trains are six-car configurations designed to increase passenger capacity on the Purple and Green Lines, two of the network's busiest corridors.

The safety authorisation from CMRS is a mandatory regulatory step before new rolling stock can be inducted into commercial operations on any metro network in India. The approval confirms that the trainsets meet safety and operational standards for passenger service.

With the induction of the new trains, BMRCL aims to address capacity constraints and improve service frequency on the Purple and Green Lines, which have witnessed growing ridership.
