Andhra Pradesh accelerates road projects, clears pending bill payments in Annamayya district

The Andhra Pradesh government has directed officials to expedite bill clearances and begin pending road projects immediately in Annamayya district, with 81 sanctioned works already initiated but payments for completed projects still awaiting settlement.

Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy reviewed the department's ongoing works at Rayachoti on Saturday, instructing officials to complete sanctioned projects within deadlines and resolve bottlenecks related to tenders, land acquisition and pending bills. The Minister announced that the state government has embarked on fast-tracking road and transport infrastructure projects in the district, with top priority on quality and safety standards.

2,042 km road network under review

Annamayya district has 2,042 km of state highways, major district roads and other rural roads, officials informed the Minister during the review. While 81 road works have been initiated, payments relating to completed works remain pending.

National Highway projects gain momentum

The Minister reviewed National Highway works, including the Rayachoti-Vempalli NH-440 project, which was executed at a cost of ₹241.69 crore. The project has achieved 95% physical and 90% financial progress, officials said.

A four-lane tunnel between km 211/500 and 217/200 on the Rayachoti-Kadapa NH-40 corridor, including approaches, has been proposed at an estimated ₹1,000 crore, with soil exploration under way.

Transport revenue rises, accidents decline

Transport and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy separately reviewed revenue, digital services and road safety with district officials. The Transport department's revenue reached ₹110.45 crore in 2025-26, an increase of 8.41%, officials said.

Road accidents, fatalities and injuries declined by 10.34%, 9.86% and 12.96% respectively during January-August 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year, officials informed the Minister. The Transport Minister urged officials to improve digital services, strengthen road-safety measures and address problems faced by vehicle owners at fitness-testing centres.
