Thirty-six canines of the Andhra Pradesh Police have completed a 10-month training programme in explosives detection, narcotics detection, cadaver detection, assault and Search & Rescue, strengthening specialised policing capabilities in the State.

The passing-out parade of the 23rd batch of canines and their handlers was held at the Canine Training Centre on the A.P. Special Police’s 6th Battalion premises near Mangalagiri on Wednesday.

At the event, trained canines of the Intelligence Security Wing of the Andhra Pradesh Police gave a live demonstration of their operational skills.

The demonstration included tactical assault routines and the detection of narcotics concealed in complex packaging.

Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds were part of the skilled pack that displayed its abilities during the exercise.

Accompanied by their handlers, the canines demonstrated discipline, agility and specialised tactical skills at the parade.

Home Minister says canine wing aids crime detection

Home Minister V. Anitha, who participated in the event, praised the police canines for their role in detecting crimes.

She said crime detection was being boosted with the help of modern technologies and advanced forensic evidence processing.

According to her, 218 canines are currently serving the Police Department in the State.

She said 78 of them were trained in the last two years.

“The canine wing of the police has proved their mettle in solving cases. They have played a key role in crubing the drug cases,” she said.

Her remarks placed the canine wing within the wider policing effort that combines trained animals, technology and forensic evidence processing for crime detection.

Cadaver detection dogs to join disaster response force

Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said canines have become the most reliable companions in policing.

He said canines trained in cadaver detection are being inducted into the A.P. State Disaster Response Force for the first time.

The move brings cadaver-detection capability into the State disaster response structure through trained police canines.

Mr. Gupta said dog handlers and other staff are trained in advanced methods in coordination with the CRPF Dog Breeding & Training Centre in Taralu, Bengaluru.

“Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds have been introduced for dual duties in accordance with internal security requirements,” he said.

The use of Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds for dual duties reflects the department’s stated focus on internal security requirements.

Senior police officers attend parade

DGP (CID) Ravishankar Ayyanar, Director General (ACB) Atul Singh, Additional DGs Mahesh Chandra Laddha (Intelligence) and N. Madhusudana Reddy (Law and Order) were present at the event.

Inspectors General of Police B. Rajakumari, Kanthi Rana Tata and K.V. Mohan Rao also attended.

SP K. Arif Hafeez was among the officers present at the passing-out parade.

The event showcased the newly trained batch after its 10-month instruction in detection and tactical roles, and underlined the continuing deployment of police canines across crime detection, drug cases and disaster-response-linked cadaver detection.
