Amaravati's quantum computing facility to launch operations in January 2027

Amaravati's quantum computing building is set to be completed by the end of December, paving the way for services to launch the following month, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced after inspecting the facility on Tuesday.

The Minister said quantum computing operations would commence in January 2027, marking what he described as a pivotal moment in the capital's technology-focused growth. He made the announcement following a site visit to review construction progress at the quantum computing building.

German Technology Underpins Facility

The quantum computing facility is being built using German technology and is intended to diversify Amaravati's knowledge economy. Mr. Narayana drew a parallel between the capital's quantum computing ambitions and Hyderabad's trajectory as an IT hub, suggesting Amaravati could see comparable growth in this emerging field.

"As Hyderabad has developed into an IT hub, Amaravati is expected to witness a similar growth in quantum computing," the Minister said.

Part of Broader Knowledge Hub Vision

The quantum computing centre forms part of a larger strategy to position Amaravati as a knowledge hub anchored by advanced technology and modern infrastructure. Mr. Narayana said the launch of quantum computing services from January would represent an important milestone in strengthening the capital's technology-oriented development.

The Minister also credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's long-term planning for the growing global footprint of Telugu professionals in the IT sector. He said the Chief Minister's vision had enabled Telugu people to make significant strides in information technology worldwide.

Quantum computing, which leverages quantum mechanics to solve complex problems beyond the reach of classical computers, remains a nascent field globally, with commercial applications still emerging. The January 2027 launch would position Amaravati among early movers in offering quantum computing services in India.
