28-yr-old stabbed to death in Deogarh district

Deogarh: A 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Deogarh district on Wednesday night following a dispute over water supply in his village. The deceased has been identified as Pappu Sahu, a resident of Gunduriposhi Colony Sahi under Deogarh police limits.

According to the FIR filed by Pappu’s father, Arta Sahu, tensions had escalated after a village meeting on June 16, during which Pappu was accused of halting water supply to the locality. Following the meeting, eight villagers allegedly abused, pushed, and beat him. The family did not report the incident to the police at the time due to fear.

On Wednesday night, Arta Sahu heard Pappu screaming and rushed outside, only to find him collapsing. Family members discovered Pappu lying in a pool of blood with a severe wound on his left thigh. He was immediately taken to Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police suspect the fatal injury was caused by stabbing.

The authorities registered a murder case on Thursday and sent the body for postmortem before handing it over to the family. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the accused. "Our effort is on to identify the killer and nab the accused," said Sabyasachi Satapathy, inspector in charge of Deogarh police station.
