Family refuses last rites after elderly man's death in alleged assault in Muzaffarnagar

A 70-year-old man's death after an alleged assault has sparked sharp community tension in Muzaffarnagar's Kharad village, with relatives refusing to perform his last rites until senior officials arrive at the scene and act against those accused.

Jaysingh, a resident of Kharad village under Phugana police station jurisdiction in Muzaffarnagar district, died after he was allegedly beaten with fists and sticks. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday, and the elderly man succumbed to his injuries in critical condition. Since his death, a tense atmosphere has gripped the village, and members of the Kashyap community have been gathering in large numbers at the spot.

The deceased's family members have refused to cremate the body and are demanding that the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police personally visit the village, hear their grievances, and ensure strict action against the accused. The Kashyap community members present at the scene have escalated their demands, calling for an encounter against the accused and bulldozer action on their houses.

Among those present at the site are Khap Chaudhary Dr Sonu Kashyap, Pravesh Pradhan Kashyap, Chunnu Master, Suresh Kashyap, MLC Om Prakash Kashyap, Pramod Kashyap, social worker Sachin Kashyap, and other members of the community. The relatives and community members remain stationed with the body in the village and are insisting that the District Magistrate and SSP come to the spot before they proceed with the funeral.

All eyes are now on what action the police and administration will take in this case as the standoff continues.
