‘Best way to lose’: Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath celebrates losing Rs 2.5 lakh bet to employee

Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath recently shared his joy over losing a Rs 2.5 lakh fitness challenge to an employee, calling it the "best kind of bet to lose." The challenge saw Rohit Agarwala, a content and media strategist at Zerodha, successfully shed 30 kg over the past year. Kamath expressed his happiness in a post on X, where he shared Agarwala’s Instagram story detailing the achievement.

Agarwala, who posted a photo with Kamath, referred to his win as his "biggest flex." He revealed that the cash prize was secondary to the real reward: achieving his fitness goals and losing 30 kg. Kamath echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of health over money.

The fitness challenge began about six months ago, involving Agarwala and 15 colleagues. The group collectively put Rs 1 lakh on the line to encourage employees to take their health seriously. Agarwala set a personal goal to reduce his weight from 95 kg to 75 kg by January. He surpassed expectations, reaching 74.5 kg by January 8, after starting his journey at 104 kg in April.

Reflecting on his transformation, Agarwala admitted that weight loss had long been a struggle for him, with previous attempts often undone by regaining weight. He credited Zerodha’s health-focused workplace culture, which he said provided the motivation he needed to stay committed to his goals. "This was the change I needed in my life," he shared.

Kamath reshared the story, expressing his delight at losing the wager. The post quickly garnered praise online, with users applauding both Kamath’s mentorship and Agarwala’s dedication. Comments ranged from admiration for the workplace culture to recognition of the health-first approach. Entrepreneur Ankur Warikoo also reacted positively, calling the story inspiring.
