Wagner Moura in Talks to Join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel

Wagner Moura is reportedly in negotiations to join the cast of Warner Bros.’ upcoming *Ocean’s Eleven* prequel, starring Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. The Brazilian actor is being considered for the role of the film’s main villain, though details about his character remain under wraps.

The untitled heist film will see Cooper not only starring but also directing, writing, and producing. Robbie, meanwhile, will co-star and produce through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner. Production is set to kick off in France, beginning in Paris and later moving to the south of the country, with filming scheduled to start in late July. Warner Bros. has slated the film for release on June 25, 2027.

If Moura finalizes the deal, he will join a legacy of notable antagonists in the *Ocean’s* franchise, including Andy Garcia’s portrayal of Terry Benedict in 2001’s *Ocean’s Eleven*, Vincent Cassel’s François Toulour in *Ocean’s Twelve*, and Al Pacino’s Willy Bank in *Ocean’s Thirteen*. Moura himself is no stranger to high-profile roles, having recently earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in *The Secret Agent*. His other notable credits include Netflix’s *Narcos*, Alex Garland’s *Civil War*, *Dope Thief*, and the *Elite Squad* films.

The prequel will delve into the backstory of Danny Ocean, the iconic thief played by George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy. Margot Robbie revealed during CinemaCon 2026 that the film will focus on Danny’s parents, portrayed by herself and Cooper, who are described as “two masterminds” who taught their son everything he knows. The plot centers on an ambitious heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, showcasing the duo in their prime.

Cooper penned the current screenplay, building on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell, with earlier drafts written by Carrie Solomon. Robbie, Cooper, and Tom Ackerley are producing the film, alongside an extensive team of executive producers, including Josey McNamara, Bronte Payne, Bobby Wilhelm, Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Lee Isaac Chung, Ashley Jay Sandberg, Gary Ross, and Olivia Milch.

This marks the first installment in the *Ocean’s* franchise since 2018’s *Ocean’s 8*, which was led by Sandra Bullock. Fans of the series can look forward to a fresh take on the beloved heist saga with this highly anticipated prequel.
