Varanasi court rejects bid to dismiss Benares State succession dispute case

A court in Varanasi has delivered a significant order in the protracted succession dispute over the Benares State throne and properties worth crores of rupees, including the Ramnagar Fort and Nadesar Palace. The Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division), Court No. 2, Varanasi, has rejected a petition filed by Vishnupriya seeking dismissal of the case.

The dispute centers on the claim of Dr. Anant Narayan Singh, who has asserted that he is the sole son of the late Maharaja Dr. Vibhuti Narayan Singh and has laid claim to the throne and all related properties of the Benares State. The contested assets include the historic Ramnagar Fort, Nadesar Palace, and several other properties valued at crores of rupees.

Vishnupriya had moved the court with a request to dismiss the suit at the preliminary stage itself. However, the court declined to accept this demand and turned down the petition.

In its order, the court observed that determining the veracity of the facts of the case and the claims advanced by both parties is not possible at this preliminary stage. The court noted that such a determination would require detailed evidence and testimony from witnesses.

With the petition now dismissed, the case will proceed to regular hearings, where both parties will present their respective claims and evidence before the court. The succession battle over the Benares State throne and its substantial assets will continue to be heard in due course.
