St. Francis College hosts conference on technology and global sustainability

St. Francis College for Women in Hyderabad launched a three-day international conference examining how emerging technologies can support global sustainability while preserving cultural heritage.

The event, titled 'Emerging Technologies, Humanities and Sciences: Pathways to Global Sustainability', opened on September 9 with V. Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), serving as chief guest and J. Vatsala Rani, Senior Scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), as guest of honour.

Interdisciplinary Solutions to Complex Challenges

College Principal T. Uma Joseph emphasized that interdisciplinary approaches are essential for adopting emerging technologies while preserving traditions and cultural diversity. She argued that no single field of knowledge was sufficient to address the complex challenges of life and society.

The conference has drawn together academicians, researchers, industry experts and students to discuss sustainable solutions to contemporary global challenges.

Ethical Frameworks for Technology

Balakista Reddy addressed the interconnected roles of emerging technologies, environmental sustainability and education. Describing the 21st century as a knowledge revolution, he highlighted the growing influence of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. He stressed the need for appropriate ethical frameworks to govern their development and use.

Encouraging Young Researchers

Vatsala Rani highlighted the role of research and innovation in achieving global sustainability. She spoke about the work being undertaken by research institutions and individuals across the country to develop solutions in diverse fields. She encouraged students, particularly young women, to pursue research and contribute to scientific innovation.
