The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday claimed victories in 30 of the 48 colleges in Kozhikode district where students’ union elections were held under the University of Calicut.

The elections were conducted on an organisational basis, according to the SFI. The organisation also claimed that it won all the seats in 14 of the colleges.

KSU, MSF report gains

The election results were contested by functionaries of the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) and the Muslim Students’ Federation (MSF). They claimed that their organisations had registered victories independently and under the banner of the United Democratic Students’ Front (UDSF) in several colleges where the SFI had earlier wielded influence.

The campuses where the SFI claimed victories included Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan’s College and Government Arts and Science College, Meenchanda, both in Kozhikode city. It also listed Government College, Madappally, Vadakara; S.N. College, Chelannur; Government Law College, Kozhikode; and CKG Memorial Government College, Perambra among the major campuses where it won.

The KSU retained its union at St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, in Kozhikode city. It also defeated the SFI at Malabar Christian College, also in Kozhikode city.

The KSU-MSF combine won the unions at government colleges in Balussery, Kunnamangalam and Nadapuram. The MSF, meanwhile, continued its winning streak at Farook College on its own this year as well.

Allegation over election process

SFI leaders alleged that activists of the UDSF, the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League attempted to disrupt the election process at SNES College, Kunnamangalam. The allegation came amid competing claims by student organisations over the results in colleges where the SFI had previously held influence.
