Self-enumeration for Census 2027 launches in Chennai until July 31
Chennai residents can now self-enumerate for Census 2027 until July 31. Participate online for a streamlined data collection process.
Residents of Greater Chennai Corporation can now participate in the first phase of Census 2027 through self-enumeration, which will remain open until July 31. Starting July 17, households can register their details on the official portal, https://se.census.gov.in. This initiative allows residents to complete their census information conveniently online, ahead of the house listing and housing census scheduled from August 1 to August 30.
According to an official press release, individuals who opt for self-enumeration will receive a unique reference number. This number must be shared with enumerators during the physical survey next month to ensure seamless data integration. The move aims to streamline the census process and encourage wider public participation.
The self-enumeration platform is part of a broader effort to modernize data collection for Census 2027. By enabling households to input their information directly, the government hopes to reduce logistical challenges and improve the accuracy of demographic data. This marks a significant step towards digitizing one of the world's largest census operations.
Residents are urged to complete the process promptly, as the window for self-enumeration closes on July 31. The subsequent house listing and housing census will involve door-to-door visits by enumerators to verify and collect additional details.
Census data plays a critical role in shaping policies, allocating resources, and planning infrastructure projects. The government’s push for self-enumeration reflects its commitment to leveraging technology for efficient governance.
