Residents of Gontha village in Sambhal district’s Pawansa development block are facing severe problems because of waterlogging and accumulated garbage. Dirty water remains standing on the village’s main roads, making it difficult for people to move around. Residents say the mosquito problem has increased and there is a fear that infectious diseases could spread.
The problem is particularly serious on the road leading to the temple. Resident Lalaram Yadav said the village has two main roads, but the condition of both is poor. The temple route is covered with piles of garbage, while water has remained accumulated on the road for several days.
Devotees have to pass through the dirty water to reach the temple. Women and elderly people are facing the greatest difficulty while using the route.
Lalaram Yadav said residents had complained several times to the panchayat’s ADO about the situation. However, no action has been taken so far. He said the area has not been cleaned either.
Resident Jagatveer said waterlogging and garbage have been a long-standing problem in the village. He said he had complained several times to the responsible officials, but no official had even come to the village to inspect the situation.
According to Jagatveer, the garbage has caused a foul smell to spread across the entire village. The waterlogged and muddy roads are also creating problems for schoolchildren.
Small children going to school often slip and fall on the muddy road. Their clothes become dirty, and they are forced to return home.
Residents have demanded that Sambhal District Magistrate and Pawansa Block Development Officer take immediate action in Gontha village. They have sought cleaning of the drains and outlets in the village so that the waterlogging problem can be permanently resolved.
The situation has continued despite repeated complaints, while the dirty water, garbage and foul smell remain a daily problem for people living in the village, according to the residents. The report was filed by Rajat Malhotra.
