The Food Safety Department seized approximately 2700 bottles of packaged drinking water in Chandausi after the stock was found to be prima facie misbranded. The action was taken on Monday on the directions of District Magistrate Ankit Khandelwal, who had ordered strict action against adulteration.

Acting on confidential information, a department team led by Assistant Commissioner (Food) Manvendra Singh raided the Guru Kripa establishment in Chandausi, Sambhal. During the inspection, officials found that the establishment was operating without any valid food licence.

The team also found packaged drinking water carrying the GK Premium brand at the premises. The product was prima facie found to be misbranded. Officials seized approximately 2700 bottles of packaged drinking water from the establishment.

The department also stopped the establishment’s business operations. Samples of the packaged drinking water were collected from the spot and sent to a laboratory for examination. Officials said further legal action would be taken after the laboratory report is received.

Assistant Commissioner Manvendra Singh said that selling packaged water without a licence and without meeting the required standards amounted to “playing with public health”. He said such action would continue in the future as well.

The sudden action by the Food Safety Department caused concern among traders in the district who were operating water and cold drink businesses without licences. The department appealed to all food business operators to obtain valid licences before conducting business.
