The police department in Sambhal has suspended three police outpost in-charges over negligence in handling complaints and poor working practices. The action was taken after the number of complaints received at the outposts increased by more than 100 percent and the quality of their disposal was found to be poor.

The three suspended officers are Sub-Inspector Narendra Singh, in-charge of the Panwasa outpost in the Bahjoi police station area; Sub-Inspector Kulveer Singh, in-charge of the Kshetranath outpost in the Sambhal police station area; and Sub-Inspector Subhash Chandra, in-charge of the Jagannathpur outpost in the Gunnour police station area.

The police department found that these outposts had recorded a sharp increase in the number of complaints. It also found shortcomings in the quality of action taken to dispose of those complaints.

The department has also ordered preliminary inquiries against six other sub-inspectors. The officers under investigation are Pavitra Parmar, in-charge of the Bhakrauli outpost in the Dhanari police station area; Ankur Tomar, in-charge of the Chandausi Road outpost in the Sambhal police station area; Dinesh Kumar, in-charge of the Chaudhary Sarai outpost; Tasim Ali, in-charge of the Mandi Samiti outpost; Satyam Baliyan, in-charge of the Ekta outpost; and Kapil Kumar, in-charge of the Reeth outpost in the Kundarki police station area.

The preliminary inquiries were started after the six sub-inspectors were found to have shown the expected level of interest in dealing with complaints and after shortcomings were detected in their working methods.

The police department’s action has caused concern among personnel accused of negligence in handling complaints at the outpost level. The stated aim of the action is to ensure that complaints are disposed of on time and with proper quality, while also improving the functioning of the police.

Further action against the concerned sub-inspectors will be decided after the preliminary inquiries are completed.

Rajat Malhotra reports on the action taken in Sambhal.
