Owaisi-led AIMIM Seeks Time-Bound Summer Water Plan for Hyderabad
Asaduddin Owaisi seeks a time-bound Hyderabad water plan, emergency tanker supplies and irrigation support amid rainfall deficit and falling reservoirs.
AIMIM seeks transparent, time-bound plan to tackle El Nino impact
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIM) has submitted a representation seeking a dedicated summer drinking water plan for Hyderabad and the HMDA region. Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi submitted the representation to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday, citing the effects of El Nino and the ensuing water paucity in the State.
The proposed plan would cover water availability, supply schedules, emergency sourcing arrangements and a public dashboard. The demand comes amid a rainfall deficit, declining reservoir storage and groundwater depletion, according to the concerns flagged by Mr. Owaisi.
Water supply and emergency response
Mr. Owaisi urged the Telangana government to take immediate measures to safeguard drinking water supplies. He also referred to complaints about water with an ‘unusual colour and smell’.
The AIMIM president sought priority water supply for hospitals, schools, hostels and other critical institutions. He asked for ordinary deliveries within 24 hours and a six-hour response to failures affecting critical institutions.
He also called for tanker capacity to be procured against the quantified deficit. The representation sought smaller vehicles with a capacity of 2.5 to 5 kilolitres for narrow lanes, particularly in the Old City.
On groundwater, Mr. Owaisi requested that the September groundwater bulletin and the latest matched-station October readings be placed before the House. He also sought their public availability.
Irrigation and support for farmers
The AIMIM chief called for a clear and dependable Yasangi irrigation schedule for each irrigation command. He said the schedule should be based on a joint assessment by the Agriculture and Irrigation departments.
The representation also sought a support package if a crop holiday was declared. The package would cover compensation, seeds, inputs, alternative crops and marketing arrangements.
Urban summer action plan
Mr. Owaisi called for an urban summer action plan with drinking water kiosks at intervals of 300 to 500 metres. The kiosks were proposed for major roads, bus routes, markets, construction clusters and crowded public spaces.
He also called for employment support during the summer months and measures to protect vulnerable groups. The representation urged the Chief Minister to place the demands before the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address drought and El Niño conditions.
Mr. Owaisi further sought the issuance of necessary orders at the earliest. The representation was published on October 28, 2026, at 08:18 pm IST.
