Nikita Porwal exits Miss World 2026 at Top 40, India maintains five-year streak

India's representative at Miss World 2026, Nikita Porwal, saw her campaign conclude with a Top 40 finish at the finale in Vietnam, falling short of the Top 20 round. The Femina Miss India World 2024 winner from Ujjain advanced to the Top 40 but was unable to progress further in the competition.

India Maintains Consistent Record

Despite the elimination, the Miss India Organisation emphasized that Porwal's placement continues India's remarkable streak of securing positions at five consecutive editions of Miss World. "Nikita, you carried India with grace, conviction and heart on one of the world's biggest stages," the organization stated on Instagram, adding that she represented the country "so beautifully".

Cultural Tributes and Fashion Statements

Before the Top 20 announcement, Porwal walked the stage wearing a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai, honoring the host country's cultural heritage in what the Miss India Organisation described as "a graceful moment of cultural exchange, respect and togetherness".

For the finale night, she wore a creation by designer Bhawna Rao featuring a sculpted corset with intricate floral embroidery and hand embellishments. The gown incorporated thousands of meticulously placed beads creating a luminous texture, complemented by sheer embellished sleeves and layers of Italian tulle in a mermaid structure. Rendered in a soft blush palette, the designer explained the look reflected "the grace and gentleness of Indian femininity" while remaining "rooted in the artistry India has celebrated for generations through hand embroidery, detail and craftsmanship".

From Mythology to Modern Pageantry

Porwal also made an impression in the national costume round, appearing as a contemporary interpretation of Goddess Meenakshi, the 'Goddess in Colour'. The Torani-designed ensemble drew inspiration from the hues and architectural grandeur of Madurai's iconic temples, featuring a dhoti-style silhouette with hand-tapka embroidery and kaleidoscopic details. The look was completed with bespoke gold jewellery by Amama Jewels, including a sculpted bustier, statement earrings, head ornament and body jewellery.

Beyond the Crown

The 2024 titleholder worked as a TV anchor before entering the pageant world. She has also pursued acting, appearing in Chambal Paar, a Brij-language film that premiered at the Araluen Centre during the National Indian Film Festival of Australia and is set for Indian release. With six years of acting training, she aims to challenge the stereotype that pageant participants cannot act.

Following her sash ceremony, Porwal expressed pride in representing her nation. "The idea of being called India, not your name, not your father's name, not your mother's name, but India itself, gives me a lot of butterflies," she told Hindustan Times.

The Miss World 2026 Top 20 included representatives from Malaysia, Vietnam, Brazil, Kenya, South Africa, Ukraine and Argentina, among others.
