Whether People Call Me Overrated or Underrated, I Keep Performing: Mitra Gadhvi

Mitra Gadhvi, known for headlining films such as *Bhram*, *Mithada Maheman*, *Naankhatai*, and *The Great Gujarati Matrimony*, continues to expand his creative horizons with the OTT series *Kajodu*. In a recent conversation, the actor shared insights into his approach to portraying emotional depth, his views on labels, and the evolution of Gujarati cinema.

Reflecting on his experience with *Kajodu*, Gadhvi revealed that it was the story, rather than the character, that first drew him to the project. "The script was unusual, and narratives like this are rare, especially in the web space," he said. When director Vishal Vada Vala narrated the story, Gadhvi was captivated, even before he knew which role he would play. Once he heard the full script, he was eager to take on the challenging role of Bhavesh, a man grappling with loneliness and entering a "no-questions-asked" marriage arrangement in hopes of a better future.

The complexity of Bhavesh's character left a lasting impact on Gadhvi, even after filming concluded. "The role stayed with me for almost a month. Looking back, I sometimes wonder how I managed to play it because it required me to truly inhabit the character rather than appear performative," he shared.

Gadhvi also spoke about his personal growth as an actor, emphasizing the importance of honesty in his craft. "One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to stop judging myself on screen. I don’t judge my characters—whether they are dark, grey, good, or flawed. I stand by them, and that honesty connects with the audience," he explained.

Addressing the labels often associated with his career, Gadhvi expressed acceptance of public perception. "Whether people call me overrated or underrated, I keep performing. Since the pandemic, I’ve focused on doing honest work through projects like *Gujarati Matrimony*, *Fakt Purusho Maate*, *Mithada Maheman*, and *Naankhatai*. Slowly and steadily, I’m building my audience, and that’s enough for me," he said. Positive feedback from viewers, such as comments about trusting a project because of his involvement, holds significant value for him.

Gadhvi also shared his thoughts on the evolving landscape of Gujarati cinema, noting the influx of support-during-costume-dispute" class="nd-inline-link">Bollywood producers and the emergence of new talent. "This is probably the best time for D-Town. Over the last 10 years, we’ve evolved. After crossing the Rs 100 crore mark, we’ve garnered attention from across India. With every film, we discover fresh voices, writers, and directors," he remarked.

In an era where social media has become a platform for showcasing talent, Gadhvi emphasized that sustained opportunities depend on genuine skill. "You might get one chance because of your following, but the second opportunity comes only if you’re good at your craft. Audiences respond to quality performances, regardless of whether you come from theatre, Instagram, or a film family," he concluded.
