Police in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, have recovered alleged counterfeit electrical-wire packaging bearing the names of well-known companies. Police have recovered thousands of wire packaging boxes bearing the names of V-GUARD, HAVELLS, POLYCAB, ANCHOR and RR KABEL from a printing and packaging factory in the Civil Lines police station area.

The estimated value of the recovered material has been put at around 9 lakh rupees. According to the complaint submitted to the police, the material was found at a factory operating in the Hashimpura area. The boxes carried the names and logos of established electrical companies.

Information about action under Section 63 and Section 65 of the Copyright Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, or BNS, has emerged in the case.

The complaint alleges that fake wire packaging boxes were being prepared in the names of five major companies. These companies are V-GUARD INDUSTRIES LTD., HAVELLS INDIA LTD., POLYCAB INDIA LTD., PANASONIC LIFE SOLUTIONS INDIA PVT. LTD. (ANCHOR) and RR KABEL PVT. LTD.

Ravindra Singh, the authorised representative of the companies, submitted the complaint to the Civil Lines police. In the complaint, he alleged that some people were using the names and trademarks of reputed brands without permission to prepare fake packaging material.

According to the details recorded in the complaint, the police were informed about the matter after information was received on 2 November 2026. Following this, an inspection was carried out at a printing factory located in Hashimpura.

The address of the factory has been recorded in the FIR as House Number 569/8, Subhash Nagar, Lane Number 8, Hashimpura, Civil Lines police station, Meerut.

The complaint states that packaging boxes bearing the names and logos of different companies were found during the inspection. The recovered material included boxes prepared in the names of the branded wire companies.

The quantity of boxes mentioned in the complaint is as follows: 3,501 V-GUARD boxes, 3,001 HAVELLS boxes, 3,001 POLYCAB boxes, 3,001 ANCHOR boxes and 2,501 RR KABEL boxes.

Together, the figures add up to 15,005 packaging boxes. Images that emerged from the spot show wire packaging material carrying the names of brands including POLYCAB, ANCHOR and V-GUARD.

The case has been registered under Section 63 and Section 65 of the Copyright Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Section 63 of the Copyright Act provides for punishment in offences related to copyright infringement. Section 65 deals with possessing plates and other material for the purpose of making infringing copies.

Section 318(4) of the BNS relates to cheating that dishonestly induces a person to deliver property or valuable security. However, the final confirmation of the allegations under these sections will depend on the police investigation and the judicial process.

The preparation of packaging material in the names of well-known brands can lead to cheating of consumers and may harm the reputation of the companies concerned. If low-quality electrical wires are sold in such packaging, there could also be a risk of short circuits, fires and other electrical accidents.

The information available at this stage relates to the recovery of the packaging boxes from the factory.

The investigation is expected to examine the manufacture and supply of the packaging material, as well as any possible sales network connected to it. It also remains to be established for whom the recovered material was being prepared and where it was intended to be used.

The available excerpts of the FIR and the photographs establish the information about the recovery of the packaging boxes. The complete position in the case will become clear only after the police conduct a detailed investigation.
