Muzaffarnagar’s Kotwali Nagar police have claimed to have uncovered a gang involved in the purchase and sale of illegal weapons and arrested three youths from Meerut in connection with the case.

Police said they recovered two country-made pistols of 315 bore, one .32 bore pistol with a magazine, three mobile phones and a motorcycle without a number plate that was allegedly being used in the crime. The arrests and recoveries were made in Muzaffarnagar district.

According to the police, information was received on 29 October that some youths were present near the Kali River bridge on the Nyazupura-Charthawal Road to sell illegal weapons. Acting on the information, a team from Kotwali Nagar police reached the spot and arrested all three accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Chand, a resident of Azad Nagar, Sardhana; Mohammad Ahmed, a resident of Sardhana; and Sameer, a resident of Sardhana, in Meerut district.

Police said that during questioning, the accused told them that they bought country-made pistols from Sitara, a resident of Mainaputthi in Meerut, for ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 and sold them for ₹6,000 to ₹7,000. They also told police that they bought pistols for ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 and sold them for amounts ranging from ₹45,000 to ₹60,000.

According to the police, the three accused divided the profit from the illegal arms trade among themselves. The accused also told investigators that they did not depend on any fixed customer for selling the weapons.

A case has been registered against the accused at Kotwali Nagar under case crime number 484/2026 and Sections 3/5/25 of the Arms Act. Police are now investigating the network connected to the accused, including those who supplied weapons to them and those linked to their onward operations.

A team has also been formed to arrest Sitara, who has been accused of supplying the weapons.

The police action was carried out under the direction of SSP Suraj Kumar Rai, the supervision of SP City Amrit Jain and the leadership of CO City Siddharth Mishra. The operation was conducted by a police team led by Kotwali Nagar station in-charge Brijesh Kumar Sharma.
