Mayawati holds back major party role for nephew Akash Anand citing political immaturity

BSP supremo Mayawati has decided to withhold major party responsibilities from her nephew Akash Anand, citing insufficient political maturity despite allowing him to continue working within the organisation.

Addressing a national-level meeting of party office-bearers in Lucknow, Mayawati said, "I have allowed Akash Anand to work in the party, which is before all of you, but he still needs to become more mature. Till then, it would not be appropriate to give him a major responsibility in the party". Akash Anand currently holds the position of BSP national coordinator.

BSP to contest all polls independently

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister announced that the BSP will contest all elections across the country on its own, regardless of their scale.

Mayawati described the Congress as "strongly anti-Dalit and anti-Ambedkar" and accused Opposition parties of "misleading and misguiding" Dalits and other sections of the Bahujan society. She alleged they were "favouring some Dalit groups and misleading people by making baseless claims and spreading false propaganda".

The BSP chief dismissed demonstrations and road blockades as political and electoral gimmicks. "The BSP is the only Ambedkarite party in the country that is free from such political and electoral gimmicks. It is dedicated to the welfare and well-being of the entire society, especially the poor, labourers, exploited, oppressed, and neglected," she said.

Mayawati pointed to the development work carried out by BSP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh across four terms as evidence of the party's commitment.

The decision to sideline Akash Anand from key roles marks a significant shift in the BSP's succession planning, with Mayawati signalling that leadership transitions will depend on demonstrated political acumen rather than family ties alone.
