Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift Launched from Rs 6.10 Lakh with New Engine

Maruti Suzuki has launched the updated Baleno facelift in India at a starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh, ex-showroom, bringing mildly revised styling, a fresh set of features, and a new petrol engine to the segment's bestseller.

Switch to Z-Series Engine Marks Key Mechanical Change

The biggest change under the hood is the switch to the 1.2-litre Z Series three-cylinder petrol engine, borrowed from the Swift and Dzire, offered with a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The same engine is also available with a factory-fit CNG kit, and for the first time on the Baleno, this CNG setup can be had with an AMT as well. This makes the Baleno a compelling option, as Maruti could also offer a 1.2-litre petrol-CNG with an automatic gearbox, which will be the very first debut of this gearbox combination in its product line. Currently, only Tata offers a CNG-AMT option with the Altroz hatchback.

Subtle Visual Updates Refresh the Premium Hatchback

Visually, the changes are subtle. The Baleno now gets a larger front grille finished with black horizontal slats, while the headlamps and tail lamps carry over unchanged. It now gets a slightly revised design for the projector LED headlamps housing the DRLs. The bumpers have been mildly reworked with new fog lamp housings, and the 16-inch alloy wheels get a fresh design along with a shark fin antenna. Dimensions remain untouched, with the Baleno still measuring 3,990mm in length and riding on a 2,520mm wheelbase. A new Enigmatic Teal shade has also been added to the colour palette.

First-in-Segment Features Enhance Interior Appeal

Inside, the cabin layout stays familiar, built around a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The cabin of the 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a dual-tone layout featuring blue and black colours. The key additions this time are ventilated front seats, tyre pressure monitor, and level 2 ADAS-based safety features, both new to the Baleno. The new Baleno comes packed with features like front ventilated seats, which are first-in-segment.

Additionally, the brand is offering a wireless charger, Clarion sound system, TPMS, head-up display, 360-degree camera, and more. Features carried over from the outgoing model include a height-adjustable driver seat, wireless charger, a head-up display, automatic climate control, and a 360-degree camera.

ADAS Technology Sets Baleno Apart in Segment

The Indian automaker is also making the car safer with the inclusion of six airbags, a suite of Level 2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure prevention, lane departure warning, high beam assist, and forward collision warning, among others. The new Baleno could become the only hatchback in the segment to be equipped with ADAS tech and will be a compelling option in the premium hatchback space, making it much safer than before.

Continuing Segment Leadership

While the premium hatchback segment is amongst the dying breeds in India, manufacturers are trying to revive their offerings by equipping them with loads of equipment and multiple powertrain options like a turbo-petrol and even a diesel engine. But there's one hatchback that seems to have cracked the formula, and it continues to be the segment's bestseller: the Maruti Baleno. With the update, Maruti will be continuing this strategy as it is one of the highest selling Nexa product.

With this update, the Baleno continues to compete with the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20 in the premium hatchback segment. It is going to rival the Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza, and the Tata Altroz, which are the only options for this segment.
