Man with knife injures multiple pedestrians in Guangzhou before arrest

Emergency services received calls at approximately 5.20pm local time reporting multiple stabbings in front of a hotpot restaurant on Xiaoguwei Island in Panyu district, according to an alert by the district branch of the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau. The island forms part of Guangzhou's university town area where the attack unfolded.

Police arrived promptly at the scene and transported injured individuals to hospital for treatment, the bureau said in a social media post. None of the victims remained in life-threatening condition after receiving medical care, authorities confirmed.

Officers apprehended a 35-year-old male suspect surnamed Li in connection with the stabbings. The Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau said the case remains under further investigation.

The attack occurred in a district known for its concentration of university campuses, though authorities have not disclosed what prompted the stabbing spree or how many people sustained injuries.
