Malaysian diver swept away by strong currents dies off Bali coast

A Malaysian diver has died after being swept away by strong currents during a scuba diving excursion off the coast of Bali, Indonesian authorities have confirmed.

Siti Nuraini Rusidi, 40, was diving with a group that included a divemaster, boat captain and several other divers when the fatal incident unfolded at Crystal Bay at 11.10am local time on Wednesday.

Warning signs at first dive site

The group's divemaster, Eugenius Franciso Ray, 33, had earlier raised concerns about Siti Nuraini's health after observing her coughing at the first dive location at Manta Bay, according to local media portal Bali News. When Ray questioned her about her condition, Siti Nuraini responded that she felt capable of continuing with the dive.

The group subsequently completed their dive at Manta Bay and moved on to their second location at Crystal Bay, where the tragedy occurred.

Crystal Bay and Manta Bay are popular diving destinations off Nusa Penida island near Bali, known for their rich marine life but also for occasionally challenging currents that can pose risks even to experienced divers.
