Madhya Pradesh Raises Employees’ DA By 2%, Arrears To Come In Instalments
Ahead of Diwali, the Madhya Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a 2 per cent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) of government employees and officers.
Ahead of Diwali, the Madhya Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a 2 per cent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) of government employees and officers. With this decision, the DA will rise from 58 per cent to 60 per cent.
The revised DA rate will be effective from January 2026. Along with the increase, employees will also receive arrears for the previous nine months. The announcement is expected to provide relief to lakhs of government employees in the state.
The decision was shared by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav through the social media platform X. According to the announcement, the arrears for the period from January to September 2026 will be paid in three equal monthly instalments.
The payment schedule means that the nine-month arrears will not be released in a single payment. Instead, the outstanding amount will be divided into three equal monthly instalments and paid to employees.
The increased DA will also affect the monthly salary of employees. The enhanced DA for October will be paid in cash in November along with the salary for the month of October. As a result, employees will receive the benefit of the revised DA in their monthly salary as well as through the arrears payment.
The government has also included pensioners in the decision. The dearness relief (DR) for pensioners will be increased by 2 per cent. This increase will be effective from 1 July 2026. Retired employees in Madhya Pradesh will therefore also receive the benefit of the higher dearness relief.
The DA increase will further reduce the difference between the allowance received by Central government employees and that received by employees of the Madhya Pradesh government. Central government employees are currently receiving 63 per cent DA. After the new announcement, the DA for Madhya Pradesh government employees will be 60 per cent.
The difference between the two rates will consequently come down to 3 per cent. The state government’s decision brings the DA rate for its employees closer to the rate applicable to Central government employees.
Government employees in Madhya Pradesh had been waiting for an increase in DA for a long time. The announcement ahead of Diwali gives them two financial benefits. Their monthly salary will increase because of the higher DA, while the arrears for nine months will also be paid in three instalments.
The arrears amount is expected to reach the employees’ accounts through the announced payment schedule. The decision is also expected to provide financial relief to lakhs of employees and pensioners across Madhya Pradesh.
