Lalithaa Jewellery Mart shares listed on both major exchanges at Rs 265 per share, delivering a 31.84 percent premium over the issue price of Rs 201 on the NSE, while the BSE saw a marginally higher listing at Rs 265.30, translating to a 31.99 percent gain. The Chennai-based jewellery retailer's market capitalisation stood at Rs 14,849.10 crore following the debut.

Listing gains fall short of pre-market expectations

The debut performance came in below what the primary market had anticipated, with expectations of a 37 percent listing gain remaining unfulfilled. The Rs 1,700-crore initial public offering had set a price band of Rs 190-201 per share. Ahead of the listing, the company had successfully raised Rs 508 crore from anchor investors, including marquee names such as Goldman Sachs, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, and Bandhan Mutual Fund.

Strong fundamentals tempered by operational risks

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart, highlighted that the company remains attractively valued when compared with organised sector peers like Kalyan Jewellers and Titan. The company's return on equity exceeding 41 percent demonstrates strong capital efficiency.

However, significant operational concerns persist. The business carries an inventory-heavy model, reflected in a negative operating cash flow of approximately Rs 397.7 crore in FY26. Additionally, the company faces a Rs 1,066 crore GST dispute and concerns related to promoters, which Nyati identified as key risk factors.

Expert recommendation: hold or wait

Following the sharp listing gain, Nyati advised investors against chasing the stock at elevated levels. "Our view is positive but cautious; existing investors can hold with a stop loss at Rs 245 on a closing basis. Fresh investors should wait for a meaningful dip before entering," she stated.

Lalithaa Jewellery Mart, which opened its first store in Chennai's T Nagar in 1985, operates in the gold, silver, and diamond jewellery segments. The company's listing marks another addition to India's organised jewellery retail sector, which has seen increased investor interest in recent years.
