A 48-year-old labourer was killed and his cousin suffered minor injuries when a Bolero hit their motorcycle near Jalalpur crossroads in Hathras on Sunday morning. The accident took place at around seven on Jalesar Road in Ladpur, in the Hathras Junction area.

The man who died was identified as Sunil, son of Surajpal, a resident of Jalalpur. He was travelling with his cousin Balveer to a cold store, where he was going to do potato-cutting work. Sunil supported his family through daily wage labour.

According to the information available, the two were on their way to work on the motorcycle when the Bolero struck them near the crossroads. The impact was so severe that Sunil died at the spot. Balveer escaped with minor injuries.

A crowd gathered at the scene after the collision, and traffic on the road became congested. Sunil’s family members also reached the spot after receiving information about the accident. The news of his death left the family distraught.

Sunil is survived by three children and his family. His death has left the children without their father and the family mourning the loss of an earning member who worked as a labourer to provide for them.

Police reached the scene after being informed of the accident. They took custody of Sunil’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the collision is under way.

The fatal accident also prompted villagers to raise concerns about road safety at Jalalpur crossroads. They called on the administration to install speed breakers at the junction and put other necessary road safety measures in place.

According to the villagers, there are no speed breakers at the crossroads, allowing vehicles to pass through at high speed. They said this leaves people exposed to the risk of accidents at the junction.

Their demand following Sunil’s death was for both speed breakers and other necessary safety arrangements, aimed at preventing similar accidents in the future. The concerns raised by the villagers focused on the conditions at the same crossroads near which the motorcycle was hit while Sunil and Balveer were travelling to work.
