Konda Surekha vows to stay with Congress despite Cabinet exit

Konda couple dismisses speculation over leaving party

Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha has affirmed that her family will stay with the Congress, ending rumours of a possible exit after she was dropped from the Telangana Cabinet. Speaking at a meeting with her core supporters, she expressed confidence that her husband and former MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao would be given a chairman's post in a state corporation.

The couple told their followers that they would work to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister.

First meeting after Cabinet exit

Ms. Surekha and Mr. Murali convened their first gathering with key supporters in Warangal after her removal from the Cabinet, which followed comments made by their daughter Sushmitha against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The meeting took place on Sunday.

During the interaction, the former minister repeated her assertion that she had not brought any disrepute to her ministerial position. She voiced her frustration at being removed from the Cabinet for "no valid reason".

Criticism of local leaders

Ms. Surekha took an indirect swipe at Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy and MLC Baswaraju Saraiah. Referring to Saraiah, she said he would not even win a corporator post.

She claimed to have received calls from the party high command and expressed hope that an official post would be given to Mr. Murali. The former minister also criticised what she called "growing opportunistic politics". "We are not in politics for posts, we are here to serve the people," she said.

Appeal to supporters and election plans

Ms. Surekha urged her followers not to be swayed by false propaganda. Mr. Murali, meanwhile, said they would conduct politics while sticking to their values and warned rivals against making comments about them.

The former MLC stated clearly that the Konda couple would not leave the Congress party. He declared his commitment to ensuring that 24 corporators win in the Warangal East constituency in the upcoming Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections.

Mr. Murali stressed that those who work hard will receive tickets and pledged to protect party workers at any cost.
