Karnataka Says Draft Reservation List For Rural Local Body Polls Ready

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre said on Monday that the draft reservation list for elections to gram panchayats, taluk panchayats and zilla panchayats was ready.

He said the State government was committed to conducting elections to rural local bodies.

Publication awaits Election Commission’s permission

Khandre said the government was ready to publish the draft notification, but the model code of conduct was in force owing to the Legislative Council election.

“If the Election Commission provides permission, we will notify it,” he said.

The government has sought permission from the Commission, Khandre told reporters in Bidar.

Objections to be considered before finalisation

He said the draft reservation list would be finalised after objections and suggestions were heard.

Following that process, an affidavit would be filed in the High Court, he said.

Khandre also said the proposal for the election would be submitted to the State Election Commission.

The sequence outlined by the minister places the publication of the draft notification before the consideration of objections and suggestions, followed by finalisation and submission of the election proposal.
