Kargil Vijay Diwas Commemorated with Solemn Tributes in Belagavi

The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) in Belagavi marked Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday, July 26, with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial. The event, led by Brigadier Girish Upadhya, Commandant of MLIRC, honoured the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.

Honouring Bravery and Legacy

The ceremony saw wreaths being laid by Sandeep Khot, Centre Subedar Major, and Agniveer Vivek Khedekar, symbolizing the enduring legacy of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The tribute highlighted the regiment’s historic contributions and the seamless transfer of its values of courage and service across generations.

The Kargil War, fought in the treacherous heights of the Himalayas, remains one of the most challenging conflicts in India’s military history. The Maratha Light Infantry Regiment played a pivotal role during the war, earning its place in history for its gallantry and dedication.

Commitment to Army Traditions

The event was attended by officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), other ranks, and Agniveers of the regimental centre. They paid heartfelt tributes to the fallen heroes and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the Indian Army’s highest traditions of courage, patriotism, and sacrifice.

Celebrations Across Karnataka

In Davangere, Member of Parliament Prabha Mallikarjun marked the occasion by releasing a Kannada translation of retired Colonel M.B. Ravindranath’s book, Kargil Yuddha: A Critical Turning Point. She announced that copies of the book, purchased from her salary, would be distributed to libraries in government schools and colleges within her constituency. Proceeds from the book sales will go to the Soldiers’ Welfare Fund. “This is a tribute to our brave soldiers,” she said, expressing hope that the book would inspire young readers to embrace values of patriotism and sacrifice.

In Bagalkot, the district unit of the All Karnataka Ex-Servicemen’s Association organized a bike rally to commemorate the day. The rally, which started from the association’s office, traversed various city roads. District president Gadigeppa Arakeri and other association leaders participated in the event.

Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty. Events across Karnataka, from Belagavi to Bagalkot, reflected the collective gratitude and resolve to honor their legacy.
