Farmers from Kanawni village continued their sit-in protest for the 27th consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding that the development authority's name be removed from their khasra-khatauni land
Farmers from Kanawni village continued their sit-in protest for the 27th consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding that the development authority's name be removed from their khasra-khatauni land records and their own names be restored immediately.
The farmers, who have united in their protest, said that the names entered by the authority in their khasra-khatauni revenue records must be deleted and the farmers' names must be reinstated with immediate effect. The protest, which began over land rights issues, has now entered its fourth week with no resolution in sight.
The farmers pointed out that the Hon'ble Supreme Court had given Ghaziabad Vikas Pradhikaran six months to complete the award process. The farmers stated that 18 days have already passed since the stipulated six-month period expired, but a valid award for the land of Kanawni farmers has still not been declared.
The farmers argued that when no valid award for the land has been declared and farmers have not been paid for their land, it is not proper for the authority's name to remain recorded in the revenue records. The farmers have alleged that their land was registered in the authority's name without any payment being made to them. In this situation, the farmers' demand is that the authority's name recorded in the khasra-khatauni be removed and the farmers' names be immediately restored.
The farmers clarified that their movement is completely peaceful. They stated that the dharna will continue ceaselessly and uninterrupted until the farmers' names are restored in the revenue records.
Farmer Mathan Singh Nagar said that the farmers' demand is connected to their rights and revenue records. Until the farmers' names are restored again, the farmers will continue their struggle in a peaceful manner.
Farmer Lakhiram Sharma said that recording the land in the authority's name without making payment for the farmers' land is injustice with the farmers. The farmers' names should be re-entered immediately in the khasra-khatauni records.
Farmer Chatar Singh Nagar said that farmers are raising their demands in a peaceful manner. This struggle of the farmers is for their land and for the restoration of their rights in the revenue records, and it will continue until the demand is fulfilled.
Farmer Praveen Nagar said that the farmers of Kanawni are completely united regarding their demand. The dharna will continue until the farmers' names are restored in the revenue records.
Among those who remained present at the dharna today were Shri Chand Nagar Jagdish Sharma, Mahendra Nagar, Pappu Baisla, Shyam Singh Adhana, Devendra Nagar, Bhagwat Singh, Tirkha Jatav, Jaypal Nagar, Maniram Nagar Ashok Kasana and others.
The protest in village Kanawni has become a test case for farmers' rights in land acquisition matters, with the farmers insisting that until proper legal procedures are completed and compensation is paid, the revenue records must reflect their ownership. The farmers have made it clear that their agitation will persist until their core demand of having their names reinstated in the official land records is met by the authorities.
