Japan begins recovery after Typhoon Dujuan kills four, cuts power

Authorities maintained landslide warnings across affected regions on Tuesday as Japan moved into recovery mode following the deadly passage of Typhoon Dujuan, the 25th typhoon of the season.

The storm claimed four lives and left thousands of households without electricity while disrupting a major national holiday period. Nearly 2 million residents had been ordered to evacuate their homes in low-lying coastal areas or remain ready to move at short notice after the Japan Meteorological Agency warned the typhoon posed an "imminent threat to life".

Holiday chaos and ongoing risks

Though evacuation orders have now been lifted, officials continue to urge caution in zones where heavy rainfall has destabilised hillsides, heightening landslide danger.

The typhoon struck at the start of a three-day "silver week" national holiday, forcing widespread cancellations and disruptions. Travel plans were thrown into disarray, while festivals, outdoor musical performances and sporting events faced interruption. Among the affected competitions were events at the 20th Asian Games, which are being held in central Japan.
