A Hong Kong-headquartered intergovernmental mediation body has settled its second case, an infrastructure dispute in Malaysia, as it marked its first anniversary.

IOMed reports second settlement

Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, secretary general of the International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed), said the organisation had wrapped up a case on Tuesday and was handling another.

The settlement is the body’s second successful case since its establishment, according to the organisation’s head.

Cheng made the disclosure at a reception marking IOMed’s first anniversary.

She also said the organisation had received “more than a dozen” inquiries, indicating that it is being approached over a range of potential international disputes.

“Our ambition is not simply to build a successful institution, but to foster a culture where mediation becomes a natural and trusted choice to resolve international disputes,” Cheng said.

The Malaysian infrastructure dispute and the additional case being handled come as IOMed seeks to establish mediation as a trusted mechanism for resolving disputes between parties across borders.
