Indore Mayor Reprimands Officials Over Pending Files, Says Delays Trouble Residents

Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava reprimanded officials over development-related files that have remained pending in offices, saying delays and paperwork were causing trouble for residents and damaging the government’s image. He made the remarks during a surprise inspection of Sector-D in Sudama Nagar on Thursday morning.

The mayor said, “आप लोग कागज-कागज खेलते रहते हो और यहां जनता परेशान होती रहती है। आपके कारण सरकार की छवि खराब होती है।” He was accompanied by local councillor Jitu Rathore during his regular morning visit to the area.

During the inspection, Bhargava reviewed the ongoing construction work in Sudama Nagar. Complaints were raised about the contractor’s negligence in the work being carried out on the drainage line in the area.

Another issue came to light in connection with the boundary wall of a garden in A Sector. Although the tender for the boundary wall had already been issued, the file for the work order had reportedly remained pending for a long time.

The mayor expressed his displeasure over the matter and summoned the concerned file and officials to the spot. Additional Commissioner Shringar Shrivastava was also called to respond to the issue.

Questioning the delay, the mayor said, “जब काम होना ही नहीं था, तो उसका प्रस्ताव कैसे बन गया? टेंडर किस आधार पर हुआ और वर्कऑर्डर तक प्रक्रिया कैसे पहुंची?” He made it clear that the entire matter should be investigated to establish who was responsible for the delay.

Bhargava directed officials to prepare a list of all such cases in which files had been kept pending without a proper reason. He instructed that these cases be investigated and placed before the Municipal Commissioner. After that, a report should be presented to the MIC.

The mayor also directed officials to take action against those found responsible. He said, “अधिकारियों की लेटलतीफी से आम लोगों को बार-बार परेशान होना पड़ता है। जनप्रतिनिधियों को भी रोज जनता की शिकायतें सुननी पड़ती हैं। ऐसे में छोटी-छोटी समस्याओं के लिए महापौर को मौके पर पहुंचकर फाइलें निकलवानी पड़ें, यह अधिकारियों की कार्यप्रणाली पर गंभीर सवाल है।”

He asked the Commissioner and the concerned senior officials to investigate the pending cases and take action against those responsible. Bhargava said unnecessary delays in development work would not be tolerated.

The inspection focused on the pending file related to the Sudama Nagar garden’s boundary wall, the tender and work-order process, and the complaints linked to the drainage line work. The mayor directed the officials to examine the process and fix responsibility for the delay.
