Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava launched a monitoring campaign to stop the wastage of water and said that challans would be issued if people continued to waste water. He stepped out on the streets in the early hours of Monday and spoke to residents in Parshwanath, Vinay Nagar, Jain Colony and Lokmanya Nagar, urging them to prevent the unnecessary use of water.

Water Works in-charge Abhishek Sharma ‘Bablu’, councillor Yogesh Gedar and zonal officers of the Municipal Corporation were present during the campaign.

The mayor said that the need for water increases during summer. If water is wasted in such a situation, the people of the city will ultimately have to bear the loss, he said. He appealed to residents to use water according to their needs in every household so that a water crisis could be avoided in the future.

Bhargava directed the NGO team to first counsel people found wasting water 2-3 times. If there was no improvement even after the counselling, the team was instructed to record a video and take action by issuing a challan as per the rules.

The mayor also advised residents to reuse the waste water coming out of RO systems. He suggested using this water for plants, washing vehicles and washing clothes. According to him, such reuse can reduce the unnecessary consumption of drinking water.

Bhargava instructed the NGO team to prepare a campaign chart and carry out regular monitoring until Diwali. He also directed the team to identify locations where green grass was visible and set a period of two days each for getting it cut.

The Municipal Corporation is focusing on creating awareness among people, stopping the wastage of water and taking action wherever necessary.
