Indore Mayor Tells Officials: Solve Public Problems, Don’t Just Complete Paperwork

Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava gave officials a clear message during the Janvishwas Abhiyan programme, saying that people need solutions, not paperwork. He told officials that merely conducting camps and completing paperwork would not be enough to resolve public grievances. The actual problems faced by citizens must be addressed.
Collector Shivam Verma, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kshitij Singhal, the District Panchayat CEO and senior officials from various departments were present on the stage during the programme on Friday.
Addressing the officials, Bhargava reminded them of their responsibility to take the Chief Minister’s vision to the ground. He said that the concerned departments and their officials must ensure that public problems are resolved in practice. According to the Mayor, people come to such camps with the expectation that their complaints will be addressed.
Bhargava said that when a citizen approaches a camp with a problem, the concerned officials have a responsibility to ensure its resolution. If a case requires more time, the person concerned should still be given a clear and proper response, he said.
The Mayor cautioned officials that the purpose of such campaigns would remain incomplete if people were forced to submit applications repeatedly or move from one office to another to get their problems resolved. He said public trust would become stronger only when citizens received a time-bound solution to their complaints.
Bhargava stressed that every person arriving at the Janvishwas Abhiyan with a problem must be taken seriously. Concrete action should follow so that the complaint moves towards resolution, he said. The focus, according to the Mayor, should not remain limited to accepting applications or holding camps. The administration must also ensure that the concerns raised by citizens are taken forward through the appropriate process.
He also said that some cases may take time to resolve. Even in such situations, however, it is important to provide the concerned person with an appropriate reply. Officials should explain the process for resolving the problem and give the citizen information about the possible time limit, he said.
The Mayor said the Janvishwas Abhiyan would be meaningful only when it increased people’s trust in the government system. Citizens should not be made to wander unnecessarily from one office to another for their problems, he added.
Bhargava appealed to citizens to place their problems before the concerned departments. People can register their valid complaints with the Municipal Corporation, District Administration and Police Department, among other departments.
Citizens can also inform public representatives about their problems. For major or pending issues, complaints can additionally be registered through the Mayor Helpline and the Chief Minister Helpline.
