The Indian Women Under-19 Challenger Cricket Trophy has been inaugurated at the Cricket Stadium in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest and formally launched the tournament by ringing a bell.

The competition, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is being played in a pink-themed format. Teams named India-A, India-B, India-C and India-D are taking part in the tournament. According to the tournament schedule, seven matches will be played between these four India teams, while the final will also be held at the Cricket Stadium in Bilaspur.

The opening match was played between India-A and India-C. India-A won the toss and decided to bowl first, inviting India-C to bat. India-C scored 140 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

India-A therefore received a target of 141 runs to win the match. India-A completed the chase and won the first match of the tournament. The details of the winning margin were not given.

The second match is being played between India-B and India-D. The Cricket Stadium in Bilaspur will host two matches each on 30 October, 1 November and 3 November.

A match for the third and fourth positions will be organised on 5 November. The final will also be played at the Bilaspur stadium after the third- and fourth-place match. Former Union minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur is expected to attend the final as the chief guest.

District Cricket Association Bilaspur secretary Vishal Jagota shared information about the tournament and thanked the BCCI, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and MP Anurag Thakur for organising the Challenger Trophy in Bilaspur.

Jagota said the aim of the competition is to provide talented women cricketers with a better platform to display their skills. He said BCCI selectors will keep a special watch on the players’ performances during the tournament.

According to Jagota, players who perform well in the competition may get an opportunity to be selected for the Indian team for the upcoming Asian and World Cup tournaments. The tournament is therefore giving young women cricketers a chance to perform before the selectors.

Jagota also said the event is a special opportunity for sports lovers in Bilaspur. He said spectators who have so far watched these women cricketers play on television can now watch them play in front of them at the stadium.

He appealed to the general public and cricket fans to reach the ground in large numbers and encourage the women players. Entry for spectators has been kept completely free throughout the competition.
