IIT-Tirupati Launches Fifth BRICS Meeting on Geospatial Technologies

The Indian Institute of Technology-Tirupati (IIT-Tirupati) commenced the fifth BRICS Working Group meeting on geospatial technologies at its Yerpedu campus on Monday. The three-day event, organised under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, focuses on the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."

Global Collaboration on Geospatial Solutions

The gathering has brought together a diverse group of policymakers, scientists, academicians, industry leaders, startups, and research organisations from BRICS nations and partner countries. Delegates from Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa, and India, along with representatives from Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the UAE, are participating virtually. Discussions are centred around leveraging geospatial technologies to tackle global challenges and advance sustainable development.

Key Voices at the Inaugural Session

The event's inaugural session featured prominent figures, including IIT-Tirupati Director K. N. Satyanarayana, DST Under Secretary Gautam Govind, and Manoranjan Mohanty, Head of the DST National Geospatial Programme Division. Scientists Shubha Pandey and Arindam Bhattacharya also contributed to the discussions. Speakers emphasized the critical role of international cooperation and technological innovation in enhancing the geospatial ecosystem within BRICS nations.

Welcoming the participants, IITNiF Director Roshan Srivastav underscored the transformative potential of geospatial technologies in addressing pressing societal issues. The event aims to foster collaboration and innovation that can drive sustainable solutions globally.
