Hong Kong launches digital consent for school flu vaccinations

Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection has announced the rollout of a digital consent system for children’s school flu vaccinations, streamlining the process through the eHealth mobile application. The initiative will be implemented in the upcoming school year.

QR Codes to Simplify Parental Consent

Starting Wednesday, the Department of Health will issue unique QR codes to schools for distribution to parents. These codes, which are specific to each school, will be activated on Monday. Parents can then scan the codes via the eHealth app to complete and submit electronic consent forms for their children.

Dr Chim Pak-wing, principal medical and health officer at the Centre for Health Protection, highlighted the benefits of the system, stating, “Parents no longer need to manually fill in the information item by item, saving a lot of time and avoiding human error.”

Dr Leung Yiu-hong, head of the centre’s emergency response and programme management branch, stressed that the QR codes are valid only for students enrolled at the respective schools and urged parents not to share them with others.

The move to digital consent forms is expected to reduce administrative burdens on schools and parents while improving accuracy and efficiency in the vaccination process.
