Hong Kong Graduates Prefer Careers in Finance, Survey Finds
A recent survey by the CFA Institute has revealed that finance remains the top career choice for graduates in Hong Kong, underscoring the city's position as a leading international financial hub. The "2026 Graduate Outlook Survey," released on Wednesday, found that 71 per cent of Hong Kong graduates rated their career prospects between eight and 10 out of 10, significantly higher than the global average of 59 per cent.
The institute attributed this optimism to the resilience of the finance sector and Hong Kong's continued prominence as an international financial centre, ranking third globally and first in the Asia-Pacific region. Nearly 90 per cent of respondents expressed confidence in their ability to succeed, citing a clear understanding of employer expectations and the skills required for the industry, despite the growing influence of artificial intelligence in the job market.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence is not seen as a hindrance by most graduates. According to the survey, 38 per cent believe AI has no negative impact on their job prospects, while 37 per cent think it actually makes securing employment easier. Moreover, three-quarters of the respondents are already leveraging AI tools in their job applications, reflecting a proactive approach to integrating technology into their career strategies.
The findings highlight both the confidence of Hong Kong graduates and the city's enduring appeal as a financial powerhouse.
