A special court organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Bilaspur heard complaints and cases related to women. A total of 34 cases had been listed for hearing, of which 24 were taken up.

The special court was held under the chairpersonship of Himachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission Chairperson Vidya Negi. During the proceedings, 10 cases were disposed of and closed.

The remaining 14 cases will be taken up in future hearings. Of these 14 cases, the concerned parties in four cases were given additional time to resolve their disputes through mutual consent.

The parties in these cases will have the opportunity to work towards a solution through mutual understanding and agreement. The four cases will be heard again after the stipulated time.

Complaints related to domestic violence and harassment

Vidya Negi said the cases listed for hearing included complaints related to domestic violence, family disputes, sexual harassment, violation of women’s rights and other forms of atrocities against women.

She said the Women’s Commission is committed to ensuring justice for women and protecting their rights. The commission is working to provide women with an opportunity to have their complaints addressed and seek justice without having to travel from remote areas to district headquarters.

Negi said that, for this purpose, the commission will organise awareness camps in different districts of the state. Along with the awareness camps, the commission will also hold special courts at the local level.

According to the chairperson, these efforts will give women an opportunity to have their complaints resolved and seek justice closer to their homes. The local-level special courts are intended to make it easier for women from areas far from district headquarters to participate in the hearing of their cases.

The special court at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Bilaspur considered complaints and cases concerning various issues faced by women. The proceedings covered cases that had been listed for hearing before the commission.

Commission member Neha Thakur, Reena Pundir, Member Secretary Bushra Ansari Singh and Legal Officer Yashpal Sharma were present on the occasion. The concerned officers and employees also attended the special court.
