Harry and Meghan return to Britain after six years away from royal life

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Britain on Wednesday after flying privately from California, marking their return six years after they stepped back from royal life, the BBC reported.

The homecoming follows last week's surprise disclosure that Harry and Meghan had decided to relocate from California to somewhere outside London for what has been described as an extended stay, a move that caught even close family members off guard. Their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are set to begin school in Britain in September, though the couple is keeping details about their exact location and the children's school private.

No return to royal duties

The couple will not be living in a royal residence or resuming official duties. Harry's spokesperson did not immediately comment on the arrival.

Harry and Meghan left for the United States in 2020, stepping down from official royal roles to pursue independent careers. The years since have been marked by public controversy: Harry has accused the royal family of neglect, blamed the tabloid press for ruining his life, and criticized the government for failing to provide adequate security for him to return home.

The decision to return, even temporarily, represents a notable shift for the couple who spent the past six years building a life in California while their relationship with the royal family and British media remained strained.
