GBA Chief Commissioner orders fast-tracking of Ejipura buffer road project

M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), has directed officials to accelerate the construction of the 5.45-km buffer road connecting Lower Agaram Junction to Sarjapur Road via Ejipura. The directive came during a review of development projects in Bengaluru South City Corporation on Tuesday.

Key Project Details and Progress

The buffer road project is divided into two segments: a 2.45-km stretch from Lower Agaram Road to Ejipura Road, and a 3-km stretch from Ejipura Road to Sarjapur Road. As part of the initiative, the Defence Department has already handed over 5.34 acres of land near Ejipura. According to GBA officials, 90% of the retaining wall work has been completed, while drainage and footpath construction is ongoing.

Measures to Address Flooding and Design Enhancements

Given that the adjoining S.T. Bed Colony is a low-lying area prone to flooding, Mr. Rao emphasized the need for stormwater drains within the road limits to mitigate waterlogging. He also instructed officials to incorporate rainwater percolation features into the road design wherever feasible.

Ejipura Flyover and Additional Infrastructure

The Chief Commissioner also reviewed the progress of the Ejipura flyover, urging officials to deploy additional manpower to expedite its completion. Post-construction, he directed that the narrow footpath beneath the service road be widened and complemented with a dedicated cycle track. To ensure safety and usability, the cycle track must be designed to prevent access by two-wheelers. Additionally, officials were asked to prepare an estimate for adequate lighting under the flyover.
