Five MSF Kasaragod leaders resign over appointment made without collective consultation

Five senior office-bearers of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) Kasaragod district committee have resigned together, accusing the district president and general secretary of bypassing collective decision-making structures.

Treasurer Sarfaraz Banthiyod, vice-presidents Jamsheer Mogral and Murshid Mogral, and secretaries Bilal Arikadi and Ansar Vorkady submitted their resignations simultaneously, plunging the district unit into an organisational crisis. The immediate trigger was the appointment of a district representative to the MSF State committee, a decision the resigning leaders say was made without consulting the district council.

Allegations of exclusion and centralised control

The five office-bearers alleged that the district president and general secretary excluded former district general secretary Savad Angadimugar from consideration for the State committee post, despite the district council having taken decisions on the matter. In their resignation letters, they criticised the leadership for taking organisational decisions without communicating with district-level office-bearers or holding collective discussions.

They further alleged that important decisions were being made by only a few individuals rather than through consultation with office-bearers at different levels and consideration of activists' views. The resigned leaders described the functioning style as "unacceptable" and called for an end to "practices that could strengthen factional or sectarian tendencies" within the organisation, demanding that grassroots activists' views be given due importance.

Leadership yet to respond

The simultaneous departure of the five senior functionaries has raised concerns over the functioning of the district unit. The mass resignation has now put pressure on the MSF's State leadership to intervene in the escalating dispute. The district president and general secretary have not yet issued a response to the allegations that prompted the resignations.
