Noida's Jewar International Airport has officially commenced operations. On Monday, an Indigo flight from Lucknow landed at the airport for the first time and was greeted with a water cannon salute. The flight is scheduled to carry 161 passengers to Bengaluru.

In a special event, 170 farmers, including 20 women, who contributed land for the airport's construction, departed from Noida to Lucknow on a special flight. Upon arrival, they are set to meet CM Yogi Adityanath.

The airport was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 28 March. The first phase of the project, covering approximately 3,300 acres with a terminal and runway, has been completed at a cost of ₹11,000 crore. The airport is being developed in four phases and is expected to become Asia's largest and the world's sixth-largest airport upon completion. It is projected to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually. The foundation stone for the project was laid on 25 November 2021, and the first phase was completed in five years.

Starting today, regular flights to Hyderabad and Amritsar will also begin. From 16 June, Indigo will operate flights from Noida to Bengaluru and Jammu, while Akasa Air will launch daily flights to Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai.
